About this template

This template is linked to our Annual Planning Guidance document. The Annual Planning Guidance document provides a step by step guide on one way to conduct an efficient and detailed annual planning process, ultimately preparing an Annual Plan and Strategic Annual Plan.

This template complements our Guidance document and assists audit teams in ensuring they have considered some of the available external information which is available and will assist in conducting a detailed planning process.

Why use this template

There is a great deal of externally available information which can assists organisations to better identify current and emerging risks which should be considered as part of the annual planning process. This template workpaper helps to direct auditors to ensuring they have considered at least some of the more generic publicly available information.

As with anything we do as auditors, it is important to document what was done and what the outcome was. This template helps in ensuring audit teams have documented all the work they have performed.

When to use this template

This template should be used throughout the annual planning process. Ultimately, this template is just a guide and audit teams may find it more preferential to document audit work elsewhere.

Things to be careful about

This template lists a range of publicly available documents which should be considered as part of the annual planning process. It should be noted however that the items included in this list are only generic and therefore may not apply to all organisations. Additionally, there may be some organisation specific documents / information which should be considered. This is not a complete list and audit teams should perform their own research to identify any other information which may help them to identify current or emerging risks specific to their organisation.
